The Good, the Bad, and the things that are sapping productivity.
Dualism is such a tired concept. Good/Bad, Man/Woman, Fool/Genius, you’d think that by now we’d have moved beyond a view of the world invented before the birth of Christ . So instead of just looking at the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ that’s occured over the week in game-related news, why not add another random category to the mix. That’ll be groundbreaking, won’t it? We can call its theoretical base ‘Tri-ism’.
The Good
Public Consultation About an R18+ Rating For Videogames
Two way, open discussion on a topic that affects our country’s citizens? What is this we’re living in, some kind of democracy? Finally releasing a discussion paper on Australia’s rating system and calling for submissions on the topic may be seen as a token effort by many, but it’s a start. Let’s just hope that the 1337 speaking population and all those with Xbox Live attitudes are too busy pwning noobs to reply.
The Bad
Well, more specifically the figure that will be appearing on the bottom of my next credit card statement. Being a Generation Xer, naturally I blame someone else – the retailers. How dare they take advantage of my lack of self control like that? Thank baby Jesus that as it’s Christmas time, I was already planning for debt. The only unexpected outcome is that the fruits of this debt have all gone to me. Allowing loved ones to see you happy is still in the spirit of giving, yeah?
The Unproductive
The work toilet was already getting used more for playing Canabalt than for … well, you get the idea, but by improving upon their already addictive game, it seems almost certain that Semi Secret Software have struck some sort of clandestine deal with a haemorrhoid cream manufacturer. With the game’s new online leaderboards and fresh objects to jump on, over and through, how are we supposed to get anything done around here?

I have serious problems with toilet gaming, especially with Canabalt. Trips that really only should be less than 10 seconds turn into minutes and minutes. This is a worrying state of affairs.
I’ll say! I’m not touching either of your iPhones again.
